The scientific community is a special organization in many respects:
1) has an international character which surpasses all the rankings, cultural, religious, etc.; scientists are among the most nomadic people in the present world
2) works successfully for three centuries, during which time he evolved from a marginal group of eccentrics (acting outside and even against universities) to a community that touches all aspects of current life (and which is now integrated into the University System)
3) is completely decentralized; makers or "power centers" are (at least currently) scientific journals whose reputation is maintained not by itself, but is in need of permanent renewal (famous magazines now couple of decades have fallen); so a "fluid" centres of decision which change constantly
4) does not have a uniform system of production (otherwise is doing research in universities, research centers, industry)
5) is based on a system opposed the idea of intellectual property rights (scientists are forced to publish partial results including due to the policy of "publish or Yalda")
6) has a final goal to which relates all her actions: understanding how it works all things
In short, the scientific community looks from certain points of view with a democracy, from other points of view with a corporation, from other points of view with an entire economic niche, but the resemblance goes each time than to a point. This community is found, at least in the present, both in interactie close States as well as with industry, which affect (positively and negatively) the way in which it operates.
The question is what can be learned from the way the scientific community works:
-Can extract the suggested policy nature about how to improve the current democracies? (From the political point of view, may be considered the scientific community an example of functional anarchy?)
-Can extract hints about how nature management to improve the organizational culture in a corporation? (From a management point of view, the scientific community can be considered a kind of multinational corporation with an extremely flexible hierarchical organization?)
-Can extract suggested legislative and economic nature? To what extent the scientific community gives us clues about how it would look in the absence of industry patents and copyright?
