' Culture, politics and media campaign against Romanian intellectuals in public life ' Monday, November 24, at the Intercontinental Hotel Ronda Hall, starting at 13:30.
We are all familiar with the case, and if Lady Macdonald case Patapievici, situations in which the personalities of the Romanian intellectual life were subject to mass-media campaigns of denigration and of cyber bullying. These cases are only the most visible part of a broader trend, ever present in public life and that it was stressed many times lately. The event was organized by the CADI is part of a wider program designed to contribute to the reconstruction and modernization of the Romanian public life. As such, relative to these cases, we would like to initiate a public debate around a circumscribed set of themes of the following questions:
1. What are the origins and mechanisms of these campaigns?
2. To what extent the idea of freedom of speech is abused in such situations?
3. There are ways to counter this form of media terrorism?
4. What are the main legal instruments, political and media through which can be preintampinate or stopped these practices?
5. If it's true that no one can successfully oppose individually such attacks, which are the means through which the Romanian intellectuals and other possible targets of such campaigns can be organized to defend them?
