In Anarchy, State, Utopia Nozick asserts 3 ideas: (1) Through an invisible-hand process, social order inevitably evolves from the state of nature to the minimal state. (2) This process and the minimal state are not illegitimate. (3) Any state that is more than minimal is illegitimate. The road from the state of nature to the minimal state has two median stages: the dominant protection agency and the ultraminimal state. In Chapter II Nozick shows how the state of nature leads to a dominant protection agency in a given geographical area.
