We invite you at CADI on Friday, 1stApril 2011 at 1800 to take part in a discussion regarding the concept of freedom.
“These different concepts of freedom outline a complex conceptual view of the problem, view defined by more than one coordinate, and the position of a person regarding the occasional trade-offs between the concepts prove the value subjective judgements of that person. Therefore, there is no “correct” understanding of the concept of freedom, but just different normative positions towards the possible trade-offs, different coordinates prioritisation.
One of the important hypothesis is the following: Persons with different political opinions prioritize, speaking of value, different these coordinates, even if all take them into consideration.”
CADI has recently launched the Freedom Talk project that contains a series of puzzles about freedom and illustrates the possible trade-offs between different ways of understanding the concept. These puzzles are based on a previous theoretical analysis and a literature review realized by Vlad Tarko and Aura Matei. We invite you now at a discussion regarding this analysis and about its involvement for dilemmas like: the opposition individual-society, the political opposition left-right or the opposition between the pragmatic flexibility and the pressure on the existence of predefined, fixed and clear rules.
