Round table on “Privatization of the Education”

Description: The round table has gathered well known specialists of the current education system, as well as advocates of genuine private education, in order to answer to some of libertarian questions and challenges. What is the true status of the Romanian “private” schools? How restricted is the freedom to choose in education? Is there competition? Do we want diplomas or education? Who pays the costs and who benefits from it in the public system? Can the market efficiently supply services in education? Does it offer enough information? No matter where we stand regarding all these challenges and questions, one fact is obvious: A critical reevaluation of the current system should not be delayed.

Sorin Cucerai discusses with the students of Faculty of Philosophy about an alternative order, multiple relations of arbitrage. How is it possible a new order in which the individuals choose themselves their own arbiter of the misunderstandings and conflicts between them? The history gives us examples.

A theory of the property rights seems to exist behind the expressions like “thank you for your time/attention” and behind the explanations of some everyday moral situations. How would we explain to a child the moral mistake of a crime or of stepping somebody’s foot in the bus? But to an adult?

Description: The history of the western intellectual in the 20 century overlaps, in a big part, with the quasi-utopian faith in the state power to tax and to regulate for the common-well. Over a hundred guests at the Romanian Cultural Institute are disputing on the topic of the relation between the state and culture and the meaning of the left-right, socialism-liberalism, statism – capitalism oppositions. What positions are occupied by the intellectuals in the power structure itself? Does the libertarianism offer a believable alternative? What implications has the accession to a European Union based on statist premises?
