What does it mean “Taking the law into your own hands”? In which conditions is legitimate to use physical coercion in an extra-legal manner? Last week, Michael Sandel reminded us of John Locke and the right- in certain circumstances the obligation- of individuals to start revolutions. We take advantage of the professor Sandel’ s reference to interrupt the series of courses and make some place for a special topic in political philosophy and right philosophy, vigilante phenomenon. We will try to clarify the problems concerning the state monopoly on justice using as support for imagination the eccentric plot from the Death Note anime. With this opportunity, we will reopen a discussion started at CADI two years ago.
