CADI-Eleutheria invites you to the workshops’ triad: On Value. The meetings will take place at CADI’s office from Apartment 5 (intercom number 5 C), mezzanine, 59 Jean Luis Calderon Street and it will be held in English.

• 15th October 2015- First meeting with the topic: Three Paradigms of Western Thinking on Politics and Society

• 29th October 2015- Second meeting with the topic: Property and Solidarity-our chances as Europeans

• 10th November 2015- Third meeting with the topic: Axiological Consistency- a problem for each of us

1. First meeting: Three Paradigms of Western Thinking on Politics and Society (workshop, 15th October 2015, between 1830 and 2030)

We will discuss about Greek paradigm (sophists/following the facts; Socrates/ problematization; Plato/ idealization; Aristotle/ the theory confronted with the facts) established around the community-value. For the Greeks, political is rather the social, polis, instead of party, state etc.; For them, the subject is rather the community, instead of the individual, anyway, this is the historical subject. Afterwards, about Christian paradigm (Augustine/ the first relevant model, Thomas/ the adult standard) build around the divine person, God-value. In the end, on modern paradigm (Hobbes/Locke, Kant/Rousseau, Marx/Popper, Weber/North, Rawls/Nozick) established around the human person-value. The veritable challenge of this meeting is the ratio between property and solidarity.

2. Second meeting: Property and Solidarity-our chances as Europeans (workshop, 29th October 2015, between 1830 and 2030)

We will try to determine the characteristics of the two concepts, tracking them also at the authors mentioned in the first meeting. Then, we will try to show how they work- if they work- in our lives as community and individuals, persons, since we are Europeans and Romanians. It is easy to notice that the relationship between property and solidarity is not easy to manage, either at conceptual level, or at communities and individuals level.

3. Third meeting: Axiological Consistency- a problem for each of us (workshop, 10th November 2015, between 1830 and 2030)

As well as in the previous meeting, we won’t speculate about values, we will try to highlight that they represent a problem that concerns each of us and we will try to clarify of what does this problem consists, trying to also give a solution for it; a solution that is, so to speak, at a meta-axiological level. It goes without saying that, for being able to do this, we will have to adopt a position, with the hypothesis title, about values.
